Relationship between Performance-based Design of Building Exits and State Transition of Pedestrian Flow during Occupant Evacuation

چکیده
A discrete ‘social force’ cellular automata model is applied to simulate the occupant evacuation in densely occupied buildings. The relationship between the state transition of pedestrian flow and the exit structure, including the exit width d and the exit separation f, are investigated. Discussions on the appropriate placement of exits and the relationship between the optimal value of f and building size will be useful for the performance-based design of building exits.

Optimizing Gymnasium Evacuation Performance by Agent-based Simulation
Evacuation performance is crucial for gymnasium design and occupant safety. This paper uses Simulex, an agent-based model to simulate and optimize the evacuation performance of a typical medium-size university gymnasium. Simulated results show that the current design is susceptible to evacuation problems, such as long egress time, insufficient exits and severe imbalance for stair usage. Design ...
متن کاملThe EvacSim pedestrian evacuation agent model: development and validation
EvacSim is a multi-agent building evacuation simulation featuring pedestrian occupant agents occupying twodimensional continuous free-space to simulate pedestrian egress for building evaluation and evacuation planning support. We detail pedestrian model elements that govern microscopic agent movement such as personal space preservation, obstacle avoidance and moving together as a crowd. We vali...
متن کاملInvestigation of Human Behavior in Emergent Evacuation from an Underground Retail Store
Pedestrian evacuation from underground building in emergency situations could be influenced by the structure of buildings, characteristics of pedestrian movement and seriousness of emergency events. To understand the evacuation process of pedestrian in emergency, evacuation drills on an underground retail store and a questionnaire survey are conducted. The characteristics of human evacuation be...
متن کاملSimulation of Pedestrian Crowds in Normal and Evacuation Situations
Starting with a short review of the available literature in the field of pedestrian and evacuation research, an overview is given over the observed collective phenomena in pedestrian crowds. This includes lane formation in corridors and oscillations at bottlenecks in normal situations, while different kinds of blocked states are produced in panic situations. By means of molecular-dynamic-like m...
متن کاملOptimization based nonlinear feedback control for pedestrian evacuation from a network of corridors
An organized evacuation of pedestrians entrapped in a building in emergencies such as those caused by fire, bomb blast, or intentional or unintentional release of toxins in the environment is of utmost importance. The focus of this study is on the development of a formal control methodology for an orderly and jam-free evacuation of pedestrians entrapped in a network of corridors in buildings in...
